Nomada Himalaya Treks And Expedition

Honey Hunting in Hinku Valley (Everest Region)

Overview
Tucked between the towering peaks of Mera and Kusum Kanguru lies the wild and
lesser-traveled Hinku Valley — a remote, alpine landscape where ancient Rai and Kulung
communities still practice the daring ritual of honey hunting. This expedition blends rugged
trekking with the intense spectacle of wild cliff honey harvesting, offering a raw glimpse into
Himalayan life beyond Everest Base Camp tourism.
This is Nepal’s highest-altitude honey hunting experience, set amid jaw-dropping scenery.

Highlights
●Witness high-altitude wild honey hunting (above 3,000m)
●Trek through alpine meadows, pine forests, and glacier-fed rivers
●Connect with Rai/Kulung communities preserving ancient forest rituals
●Watch climbers dangle on vertical cliffs using rope ladders and smoke
●Epic backdrops: Mera Peak, Charpate Himal, and Sabai Tso Lake

Honey Hunting Experience
Hinku Valley honey hunting is not just about honey — it’s a sacred rite of passage, a harvest
offered to the mountain gods. Unlike lower-altitude harvests, here the cliffs are colder, higher,
and more dangerous.

Expect:
● Full trekking immersion with acclimatization
● Cliff-edge observation points with guides and binoculars
● Participation in pre-hunt blessings (mani chants, incense, juniper fire)
● Intense photo/video moments as hunters swing from icy cliffs
● Taste of rare alpine “mad honey,” known for strength and medicinal effects

Who is it for?
Trekkers with moderate to strong fitness
High-altitude cultural travelers and documentary makers
Wildlife and ritual photographers
Ethnobotany or shamanic culture researchers
Not suitable for children, luxury tourists, or people with altitude issues
Best Season
● May–June (Pre-monsoon) – Bees are active, trail is dry
● October (Post-monsoon) – Crisp air, stable cliffs, clear views
Avoid December–April – Too cold, snow-covered cliffs
July–September – Heavy monsoon and leeches

Add-Ons
● Add Mera Peak Base Camp Trek or Zatrwa La pass crossing
● Combine with Indigenous Shamanic Ritual Exploration
● Create a documentary film package with drone permits
● Add Rai homestay + Himalayan herbal medicine workshop

Why Choose This Trip?
● Nepal’s highest and wildest honey hunting experience
● Off-the-beaten-path Everest region trek
● Deep indigenous culture + stunning landscapes
● Rare insight into rituals nearly lost in modern trekking culture
